Keep an Open Mind—The Dress May Surprise You

You might walk in convinced you want a fitted, lace gown… and fall in love with a clean ballgown instead. This happens all the time.

Bridal sizing, structure, and fabrics look completely different on the hanger than they do on your body.

Trust your stylist—we often pull gowns you wouldn’t expect, but end up loving. The magic is in the try-on.

Inspiration Is Helpful—But Too Much Can Be Overwhelming

Pinterest and Instagram are amazing tools, but bringing in 50 different styles can make it harder to focus.

Instead:

Bring 5-6 photos you love - bonus tip: pull them from our website because if we have it online, we have it in-store (Bridal Gown Gallery)

Identify what they have in common (lace? structure? softness?)

This helps us curate gowns that actually align with your vision—without the confusion.

Your Entourage Can Make or Break the Experience

We love your hype team—but too many opinions can quickly become overwhelming.

Our advice:

Bring 1–3 trusted people

Choose those who understand your style (not theirs)

Avoid anyone overly critical or indecisive

There is actually a ton of fun in leaving your gown as a surprise to your besties/bridal party and guests - you get to repeat that first look moment with each of them and that can make your day even more special

Remember: this is your dress, not a group decision. They got to pick their bridal gowns, you get to pick yours!

Timing Matters More Than You Think

Wedding dresses aren’t like regular retail—they often take 4–6+ months to arrive, plus alterations.

Ideally, you should order:

9–12 months before your wedding

Short on time? Don’t panic—many boutiques (including ours) offer off-the-rack options and rush orders.

Be Honest About Your Budget

We are always on your side—and that includes respecting your budget.

Being upfront helps us:

Pull gowns within your comfort zone

Avoid heartbreak over dresses outside your range

Maximize your options

Also, decide if your budget includes accessories! If you are choosing to include alteration prices in your bridal gown budget - please please please share that information when your stylist! Bridal gown alterations usually start around $500 and go up from there so this can mean your actually dress budget is much different than you think! We are always upfront and transparent with gown pricing during your appointment!

We also never recommend trying on a dress that you are uncomfortable with the price point of, this causes disappointment and heartbreak! The last thing we want is for you to have your "this is my dress" moment in a dress that is over budget!

Bridal Sizing Is Different (And That’s Okay)

Bridal sizing typically runs much smaller than street sizes, and sample gowns are clipped to fit.

So if the sample doesn’t fit perfectly?

That’s completely normal.

Focus on how the gown feels and the overall vision — not the number on the tag. When you say yes, we take measurements for any gown that is being ordered so we can help you achieve the best fit!

You Don’t Need “The Moment” for It to Be Your Dress

Some brides cry. Some don’t. Some just feel calm, confident, and don’t want to take the dress off.

That feeling of “this is me” is what matters most.

The Dress Isn’t Finished Yet — Alterations Complete the Look

Most gowns are designed to be tailored to you. Even if it fits you well - you typically still need some sort of alterations to make it fit perfectly! Your bridal gown is one of the ONLY dresses that you will ever wear that fits you exactly!

With alterations, a seamstress can:

Perfect the fit

Add custom touches

Enhance comfort and support

Think of your dress as a starting point — not the final product.

Bonus Tip: If you want to add custom sleeves or touches to your dress make sure you communicate that to your stylist too, more often than not we can order additional materials that match your bridal gown so you have an exact match for those custom pieces!
